You are doing such a wonderful ministry helping these shelters and all those who grace these shelters. God Bless You!

My name is Stephey Baker and I am an artist who knows the power of beauty and its inspiring energy heals a broken heart. It ultimately transcends trauma and reconnects is to our spirit! I have an idea I'd like to suggest, create and donate. I'd like to finishing making and donate over 100 handmade magical ornaments - infused with inspiration and beauty of course. I would ship these ornaments to the address of choice no later than the week of thanksgiving 2010. Just so you know, I have all the supplies and have begun creating! I realize this is a last minute idea but I just received a few minutes ago - literally. I feel it is not to late to complete for this years holiday season and brighten those lives who receive them.
I began concepting these ornaments earlier this summer - that's why all the materials & concept are secured. It wasn't until this morning that I was inspired to donate the mini line to Enchanted Makeovers. It is my hope that the ornaments find there way to those who need a sparkly reminder that anything is possible and someone cares. These ornaments hold the concept of transformation - like the magic a caterpillar goes through in changing into a butterfly. The caterpillar has no idea it's changing into a butterfly, that this is its destiny and yet it inches along branches and munches one day at a time. I feel this is the same process one undergoes when healing - when transcending trauma and abuse in rebuilding their life and repairing their heart. It is a similar journey - a journey of returning home and allowing ourselves to be who we are and in love with ourselves, alive and confident. I know this as an artist and as an artist who was saved from grave despair after experiencing trauma. It was beauty and creativity that made me over and whole again. I've devoted my lives work to helping others experience the same by offering my creations as touchstones to inspiration and healing. I'd now like to expand my intent and donate to Enchanted Makeovers.
Though I know your organization began its inception in 2007, I am new to Enchanted Makeovers mission - literally. I became aware of Enchanted Makeovers this morning when I received an email from Joanne Crafts about the Craft for the Cause contest. While researching the contest and organizations associated with it, I came across Enchanted Makeovers and feel called to get involved - now. Please know you had me at the following:
- Without attention to the spirit, there can be no true healing.
- Everyone is worthy of surroundings that will nurture their soul and allow their greatness to emerge.
- Handmade items are very important to the recovery process. It carries with it the love and hope of the creator.
These are the exact same principles I hold regarding the art I create and power art has in the healing journey, because of this I feel I am an artistic match for Enchanted Makeovers and want to get involved with supporting Enchanted Makeovers in anyway that is appropriate. I'd like to start by donating the ornaments.
I'd also like permission to use some of your written words on my blog, specifically your mission and bullets of beliefs. I'd like to create a blog post within the next few days to inform other crafters, in my circle, of your organization and to ask for donated help in constructing the ornaments. In addition, I'd like to use the photo with the words "anything is possible Believe" in the blog post. I feel this is a great opportunity to gather as a small community here in Richmond,VA and infuse each ornament not only with my original sentiment but others as well! I know an amazing group of women and creators who'd love to get involved in creating these ornaments for Enchanted Makeovers. All copy and photos will have appropriate copy righted credit and accompany a link to it's original source.
I know not all shelters may create a tree, for that is specific to a specific religion. I feel these ornaments are non denominational and can easily rest on an ornament stand on a nearby night stand, or strung on a piece of mono-filament from the ceiling between the beds, or at a basic level hung with a piece of tape by its ribbon under a bunk bed . I'd love to have a sparkly creation in each room for the holiday season. The holiday season can be a time for deep despair, especially when trying to recover from trauma and begin again. I'd like to help lift that despair by offering sparkly decorations intent to transform, uplift and charm the environment and hearts within it.
Creating handmade ornaments is a long standing tradition within my family. My mother and I have single handily created every ornament on our tree, simply because we love creating beauty and warm memories together and know of no better way to do so then through the creation of art - and glitter!
We'd be honored to extend this tradition to Enchanted Makeovers, more importantly those who are spending the holidays in a shelter. Please contact me at your earliest convenience regarding your thoughts and how we might bring to fruition this Holiday Dream.
Enclosed you will find some samples of the ornaments we've created and are offering. FYI: IN a former life I use to be a commercial photographer, which helped when photographing these creations for you to view.
Thank you for your time and opportunity to serve Enchanted Makeovers doing what I love - CREATING INSPIRATION!
ALL MY BEST,
Stephey
Keep on keeping on..... and I'll keep on supporting your efforts. :)
Much love and many hugs,

Hello Terry,
My name is Tracey I came across your wonderful mission via a slightly different route. Recently my two adopted daughters required the services of a shelter for extreme mental health needs which are only now manifesting. Our lives were thrown into chaos and devastation, ultimately requiring their removal from our home with future plans indicating long term residential at Vista Maria or somewhere equally suitable.
Standing at a precipice in my own life, having to be an advocate for the girls against the state system that gave them to us, as well as the mental health facilities paid by the state to inadequately support and care for them, I too heard a voice years ago during a freeway auto accident. Mine asked me what my purpose was, before I heard the answer. The purpose is love. That alone has been the one constant in our lives despite caring for children who themselves, because of past abuse and birth parent history, do not know how to experience this most wonderful of emotions, let alone accept it from a mother. Instead, they internalize it as a threat and do all within their power to eliminate it... even if it is to the extent of physical harm. This is the situation we found ourselves in.
Now, as we approach another court appearance advocating for these children to remain out of our home in order to be placed in a secure facility where they can have their challenges acknowledged and treated properly, I was very despondent thinking about the enormous task I have had set before me. For the past two weeks, I have been following the path of letting love guide me in faith to raise awareness to the plight of other mothers and children faced with the same situation I not only lived with for twelve years, but survived. There is so much I have learned during our journey of heartache towards recovery.
I empathize with your photo looking at the shelters dismal appearance, and was especially touched by the one of you looking into yourself while sitting on the bed. That's where I have had to look in order to find my own true calling in order to make something good come from the years of despair at the hands of my beautiful daughters who never learned how to experience love. Your expression of..."I knew without a doubt that God had much bigger plans for my life, and He needed to use me for His glory. We made a deal with each other on that day. I asked that He would continue to provide the needs for my family (food and a roof over our heads) and His request was, "Glorify Me", was a confirming answer to me to the question of should I move ahead with my planned organization to benefit children in crisis. I am exhausted, mentally drained and still recovering from the trials this mental illness in children has created, yet I feel comforted by the words you shared and encouraged to take up my own global cross of raising awareness through my own path. I know this message is lengthy, and if you have read this far I appreciate you even more. I simply wanted to say thank you from my heart and wish you continued success. Hopefully our paths will cross somewhere soon in our shared missions to help others.
Sincere Regards,
A. Tracey

The March issue is what prompted me to find you on FB. We as military know the importance of feeling grounded with the many times that we move, a sense of belonging. We feel that in the homes that we decorate, it's special touches, that make us feel like we were there forever and will continue to have stability. I cannot say enough about your foundation!! You truly give these families a sense of stability and warmth, just by what you do. Just thought I'd pass that on to you Terry.
Did u hear all my wonderful job news on facebook? I love you too sister. Merry Christmas. Happy new year. When does the new New York gig begin. Will it be on tv or will it? You have drawn me so near to God and inspired me to my true calling and now I don't worry. I have total trust in the Lord. How great that is. God bless your girls that you just helped. Wow! I just have to say that you are very inspiring! I have a dream to be a well known home stager (someone who decorates homes for sale) after reading your story, I know that there is hope. Even when it seems like it is just never going to happen...keep the faith. And I will, because of your article about the womens shelter. Fabulous work, by the way. You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your vision and your faith.
Have a blessed day~

Dear Terry,
I just read your story - wonderful - of course I voted "yes!" I'm involved with our local domestic violence shelter which is happily a warm and welcoming place. Being in the "escape" or "homeless" mode is difficult enough without having to deal with a toxic living space. Thanks for your efforts to provide havens - and empowerment for women in crisis. Here’s to continued success in your reinvention and creation of heartwarming havens for women.
You Rule!

Hi Terry,
I am so inspired by what you are doing. I too am a graduate of Joanne's SDP classes. I have a few passions in my life and they are God, my children, my family, helping those less fortunate and my decorating business.
I would love to be able to do what you are doing. Please if you have a moment, could you share with me how to get started in doing it?
Thank you,

Hi Terry,
I've been following your web site for about a year now and have always been fascinated with all you do. Anyway, I am wanting to start a program to help the kids who have lived in an orphan home and have now turned 18 and must get out on their own by helping them with basic living necessities. I know you have just changed to a non-profit organization but early on in your ministries, helping women was a part of your regular business. My question is... was it difficult to get people to donate or volunteer without being a non-profit org?
I guess I want to take baby steps to begin with and am not too sure about being non -profit right now. I currently work for Meals on Wheels as a manager and know a little about the way non-profits work. I know your busy but your thoughts and knowledge are much appreciated.
Sincerely, Tammy

My girls have been through alot in their young lives. My 17 year old was sexually abused by my husband (her step father) when she was 11 years old. She didn't tell anyone until she turned 13 and that explained the behavior that she had, with cutting herself and acting out. I immediately left him and have been struggling financially. My other two girls recently were touched inappropriately in July by my oldest daughters 18 year old boyfriend in the middle of the night when they were sleeping. He is now in jail and I have a restraining order on him. We have been through so much. One of the things that I would really want is for my girls to have a nice bedroom where they can relax. I can't afford to go out and spend alot of money to make their rooms look the way they want them to. I pick up things at consignment shops and thrift shops when I see them. I guess I need help decorating and making their rooms more personalized.Any suggestions?Jennifer 3/20/10

I saw Terry on Sewing with Nancy and was so impressed!! What a fantastic transforamtion for both the builing and the beautiful women there!! Great job to all!!
I cannot tell you how delighted I am to discover your organization and to make a financial contribution to it! As a mental health counselor who has worked extensively in shelters with homeless children and families, I have felt for years that for all people, beauty in our environments can inspire hope and help us discover our self-worth. Unfortunately, this is rarely the experience of homeless families. Thank you for your important and special work.
That's really tihknnig out of the box. Thanks!
Helping out in Jersey City was one of the most meaningful experiences in my life. It was an honor to feel that I was finially able to say thanks for all the help I myself once recieved when in the same position many of those women were in. Any time you need us, we will be there. No matter how far we have to drive, or how heavy the box we have to ship. Thank you Terry & Karina.
I am so inspired and I love everything that this organization is working to achieve. I am trying to plan a project with Enchanted Makeovers to re-do a family shelter that I have close ties too, I hope it works out! Keep up the wonderful work & inspiring. Many peoples' lives are changed from this great organization and its' happenings.

Hi Terry , I came across you sight , just the other day looking for ideas for distressed painted furniture, and was delighted when i came across yours ! To make things even better I found enchanted makeovers & fell in love with your mission , I have a shop and when I was talking to my Father God today I told him that I would really like to give to your mission ( 1st time in my life that I really felt the urge to give to any kind of mission ) of coarse I tithe & give to my chirch , anyways when I was having my alone time with God I made the commitment to give 20 percent of my sales above my tithes to you . I am a single mom and don't have alot of extra monies , so depends on what I bring in from my booth on the 1st of Oct . and every month after I will be sending it your wonderfull cause,... Thank - you so for what you do ....Tammy Ely

Dear Terry, Thank you for the wonderful opportunity to volunteer with Enchanted Makeovers. The experience of doing something good for someone other than myself and my family is extremely rewarding. My soul finds so much joy in making jewelry, preparing crafts and/or organizing volunteer events in my workplace benefiting Enchanted Makeovers. Many Many Thanks! Claudia www.anticatreasures.com

i found your site by divine intervention today...praise GOD and may he continually bless you for the calling you are fulfilling...i removed my girls 12 yrs ago from a very unhappy and distructive home, we stayed at Bay Area Turning Point Houston TX only one nite but they were so good to us and helped us SEE what was happening wasnt OUR fault...i divorced, focused soley on my girls, my work, a simple but cheerful home and GOD, no romantic involement with men just friendship...i told them that as they began to date that the man for them would be respectful, patient and care enough to cherish them I showed them that by example and...today, I AM happy to report they are beautiful, well adjusted and thriving young women as for me, well, one of my long time friends introduced me to his brother and after dating for a yr...we will be married this year. I guess im sharing this because soon i will have time to devote to a worthy cause...and i feel compelled to help you in some way... i am a fauxfinisher please visit my site and i will be looking to meet you @ Tea Time in vegas in June. godspeed emmy

I'm so happy for the work you are doing! Glad I found your site!
Terry, I found Enchanted Makeovers through another blog. What you are doing is so inspirational. I would love to be part of such a worthy cause and hope to contribute in some fashion to your organization in the future.
Terry, You are an inspiration. I think you are doing wonderful things!
I think this is wonderful! I would like to know how to get the logo button for my blog. Brenda
I just finished writing a blog on MySpace hoping it will make it to my ex-husband's latest victim. I love your page & what you are doing. Please pray for me & my children, his children and his ex-fiance and her kids. He has put us through so much yet he wasn't my first experience with domestic violence. My 1st husband was the same way. Guess we do fall into a pattern as they do. Pray that I've broken out of the cycle for me & my children. They are my life & we all almost lost our lives a year ago this month.
Having been one of these girls, I would really like to post your site on Facebook. Let me know if the National organization has a special link and RSS.
What an inspiration you are!
Hi Terry, I found your website through An Enchanted Cottage blog and I am so inspired by your work. You will hear from me soon when I assess what I will be able to do to help.
